A téma rövid leírása, a kidolgozandó feladat részletezése:
(i) vékonyfalú, hidegen alakított, de összetett szelvényeket vizsgáltunk, ahol a szilárdsági ellenálláson zárt szelvénnyé alakított övekkel próbáltuk javítani numerikus szimulációk segítségével.
Szintén új témát jelent a

The researchers at the Department of Structural Engineering have decades of applied research history on thin-walled steel structures. Several PhD dissertations were made in this topic, in which thin-walled, cold-formed C- and Z-section beams and columns were analyzed for strength and stability by experimental tests and numerical simulations. The research also included experimental and numerical strength analysis of certain cladding systems, particularly trapezoidal sheeting and seamed roofs. The Department has also participated in the development of structural systems created by thin-walled C-sections (trusses, and composite slabs) and complete building systems for its industrial partners. The stiffening effect of trapezoidal sheeting on the entire building was previously examined on numerical basis, but were also able to do full-scale tests on steel building stiffness. In each case, the research has reached the point where we have proposed design procedures for both strength and stability limit states.
With the ongoing development of thin-walled structures, newer and newer products are emerging in industrial practice, where the most important is the claddings made from sandwich panels, where the design for strength and stiffening effect are not solved yet. Also recently, the effect of elevated temperature on the load-bearing capacity and the stiffening effect of claddings has been raised.
Such research has traditionally been carried out with the involvement of industrial partners within the framework of national GINOP projects and the European Union founded RFCS research and development projects.
The aim of the doctoral research is to continue research on thin-walled steel structures and cladding systems that have been started earlier. It is also necessary for the newly developed cold-formed and thin-walled steel sections and cladding systems to determine design procedures, because there are regulations only for older structural systems in the existing thin-walled steel structure standard (Eurocode 1993-1-3), and our investigations showed so far that they are not applicable to the new structural systems.
Our research focuses on three areas:
We have already started research in two areas, namely
(i) we analyzed thin-walled, cold formed, but complex sections, where we tried to improve the strength resistance with numerical simulations by using closed flanges. Further studies are needed in this area to understand the stability phenomenon of complex thin-walled profiles and to develop design processes. In the other case
(ii) the supporting effect of sandwich panels has been investigated, also experimentally and numerically against the stability failure of beam-column members, but the stiffening effect on the entire building structure has not yet been investigated. The outcome of this research can be the extension of the “stressed-skin design” method for the new sandwich panel types. It is also a new topic to
(iii) assemble a complete building structure (lower order, non-residential) using sandwich panels without primary main bearing structural elements. This research is supported by an already awarded industrial R&D project.
The financial framework of the research will be provided by industrial co-operations, because there will be new projects in the near future, which aim is to strengthen the cooperation between the industry and the University.
