The educational objective of the Highway and Railway Engineering specialization focuses on the development of analytical, developmental, integrative, synthesizing, deductive, and strategic competencies. During their studies, building upon the foundations acquired in the BSc program, students become familiar with the methodology of strategic planning and the design and construction processes of complex facilities. Throughout the program, special emphasis is placed on a systems-oriented approach, life-cycle-based thinking, the development of skills necessary for project execution, and the application of computer-aided methods.

In the first semester of the program, students taking the specialization study core subjects and two elective specialization subjects. Specialization subjects take the leading role in the second semester; alongside the preparation of transport projects of varying complexity, study or permitting plans, as well as strategic or feasibility studies, students gain practical and theoretical knowledge during this period. The assignments of the Transport Strategic Planning subject focus on mastering domestic and international infrastructure design procedures; students typically complete their tailored design tasks in groups. It is at this time that they are introduced to road and railway management knowledge, as well as the details of railway station design, which is of paramount importance in the field of railway engineering. The elective subjects assist in deepening knowledge in specialized transport planning applications and traffic modeling, and they provide a broad professional background for graduates in the field of road and railway track/pavement structure design.

Students choosing the Transport Infrastructure Engineering specialization—in accordance with the objective of the Infrastructure Civil Engineering Master's program—are capable, upon acquiring appropriate practical experience and beyond the goals of the Civil Engineering bachelor's program, of independently performing technical development, research, management, and project management tasks related to civil engineering, primarily infrastructural facilities, as well as designing and providing expert consulting for complex and specialized engineering facilities. Furthermore, a prominent university objective is that graduates of the Master's program are prepared to continue their studies in a doctoral (PhD) program.
