Materials Testing Laboratory (EM)
The Materials Testing Laboratory of the Department of Construction Materials and Technologies at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) has a long-standing tradition. In addition to our core missions of education, student support, and research & development, our goal is to maintain seamless cooperation with the industry, ensuring the efficient and rapid fulfillment of our corporate clients' requirements.
The laboratory holds accredited status in accordance with the MSZ EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 standard. This accreditation authorizes the laboratory to perform testing of cements and special cements; hardened concrete; concrete paving elements; corrosion of concrete, reinforced concrete, and prestressed reinforced concrete bridges; masonry mortars; masonry units, including fired clay units; steels; aggregates; construction stone materials; natural building stones; and crushed stones. It also covers on-site testing of fresh concrete, hardened concrete, and the waterproofing systems of road bridges.
Building Physics Laboratory (EM)
The Building Physics Laboratory of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) is a research and service unit within the Department of Construction Materials and Technologies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The Laboratory focuses on the analysis of the hygrothermal performance of buildings, as well as the development of an energy-efficient and sustainable built environment.
The Laboratory’s activities are based on advanced measurement methods, numerical simulations, and building diagnostics. Its objective is to support the development and performance assessment of construction materials and building products through scientifically grounded testing and analysis. Furthermore, it aims to provide the professional technical background for informed decision-making in building design, operation, and renovation.
Geotechnical and Engineering Geology Laboratory (GM)
The Geotechnical and Engineering Geology Laboratory of the Department of Engineering Geology and Geotechnics at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) is accredited by the Hungarian National Accreditation Authority (NAH-1-1743/2023). Founded as the first soil mechanics laboratory on the European continent, it has earned an international reputation for excellence in geotechnical testing and research.
The laboratory's professional standing was further strengthened in 2015 through the integration of the Department's long-established Geotechnical and Engineering Geology laboratory units. Today, it offers a comprehensive portfolio of soil and rock testing services to academic and industrial partners alike.
As part of a leading university department, the laboratory combines accredited testing services for industry with high-level education and research. In addition to conventional geotechnical laboratory testing, its expertise encompasses destructive and non-destructive testing of dimension and crushed stone, durability assessment, in situ rock diagnostics, advanced rock mechanics testing, and detailed engineering geological rock description.
Pavement and Track Laboratory (UV)
The Pavement Unit of the Pavement and Track Laboratory within the Department of Highway and Railway Engineering has been operating as an accredited laboratory for several decades. Regarding the testing of asphalt mixtures and pavement layers, the laboratory’s equipment and professional expertise are outstanding on a national level. We proudly recall that, in the early stages of the development of asphalt mechanical testing, the laboratory’s own internally developed testing equipment also played a key role.
Structural Testing Laboratory (HS)
The Structural Testing Laboratory operates in close cooperation with the Department of Structural Engineering. Our competitiveness is founded on a unique combination of engineering and bridge expertise, a comprehensive suite of modeling tools, and advanced measurement and structural loading capabilities. Our team performs structural analysis and bridge load testing across the entire country, supporting the rehabilitation and positioning of specialized engineering structures weighing thousands of tons.
Furthermore, we design and execute a wide range of experiments for educational, development, and research purposes within our laboratory hall. Utilizing our custom loading frame system with a 600-ton loading capacity and modern instrumentation, we primarily conduct static and dynamic testing of steel and reinforced concrete structures.

Laboratory of the Department of Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering (VV)
In the laboratory, we investigate various open-channel flows, pressurized flows in pipelines, and subsurface flow phenomena for educational, research and development (R&D), and expert consultancy purposes. Our river, lake, hydraulic structure, groundwater, and pipe hydraulic investigations are typically conducted using physical scale models, utilizing advanced measurement techniques and data analysis methods. We are capable of analyzing the flow conditions of shorter river reaches, flows occurring in the vicinity of various river training and other hydraulic structures, as well as well hydraulics phenomena.
