iNNOSED (Innovative Sediment Management in the Danube River Basin) is a fiveyear Horizon Europe Innovation Action (September2024–August2029), coordinated by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, aimed at addressing sediment-related challenges across the Danube Basin. The project will establish a Danube sediment “Lighthouse” Knowledge Centre, develop innovative monitoring, modeling and management tools—alongside cocreated demonstration measures—to improve sediment continuity and quality, while engaging stakeholders and citizen science across the basin.

ReNEW (2022–2025)

ReNEW (Resiliencecentric Smart, Green, Networked EU Inland Waterways) is a threeyear Horizon Europe project (September2022–August2025) involving 24 partners across 11 European countries, aimed at transforming inland waterway transport (IWT) into a smart, green, sustainable, and climateresilient sector. It delivers a resilience & sustainability decisionsupport framework, infrastructure and vessel resilience innovations, a Green Resilient IWT Dataspace with Digital Twin capabilities, and four Living Labs in locations like Ghent and the Douro corridor for realworld testing and impact scaling.

National Laboratory for Water Science and Water Security (2022–2026)

National Laboratory for Water Science and Water Security aims to establish a research backbone institution in Hungary, developing integrated, interdisciplinary water management approaches covering rivers, lakes, groundwater, urban and agricultural water systems, to safeguard water quality and enhance climate resilience. The project focuses on six key pillars including extreme hydrology, micro-pollutants, biodiversity, and smart urban water management, supporting EU Water Framework Directive implementation and catchment-level planning.

DANUBE4all (2023–2027)

DANUBE4all is a five‑year Horizon Europe “lighthouse initiative” (January 2023–December 2027) involving 48 partners from 14 European countries, aimed at restoring freshwater and transitional ecosystems across the entire Danube River Basin.  It will deliver a scientifically grounded, co‑created Danube Basin Restoration Action Plan that promotes ecological connectivity, biodiversity, sediment continuity, flood and drought risk reduction, and integrates local stakeholder and citizen participation through nature‑based “win‑win” solutions.

GeoNetSee (2024–2026)

GeoNetSee is an EU co-financed Interreg Danube Region Program project aimed at creating an artificial intelligence and IoT-based geosensor network and real-time monitoring platform for tracking unstable terrains and man-made structures in the Danube region. The central element of the system is the Danube Collaborative Center (DCC) digital platform, where participating institutions share collected data, research results, and best practices, thereby promoting multidisciplinary collaboration, risk assessment, and the dissemination of technological innovation throughout the region. The project runs from January 2024 to June 2026, involving 14 partners from 9 Danube-bordering countries, and contributes to the development of a smarter, greener, and more resilient Danube region, including early detection of land movements and more efficient geospatial data analysis.
