Point Clouds, WebGIS, AI and Python – Applied Geoinformatics Programme Launches with a Renewed Curriculum

Curriculum in Autumn 2026 (For now, it only launches in Hungarian)

 

This autumn, the Department of Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics is launching its long-established Applied Geoinformatics postgraduate specialist programme with a completely renewed curriculum. While the programme continues to build on its strong foundations in traditional geoinformatics, it has been expanded to incorporate the latest developments and emerging technologies in the field.

 

Alongside redesigned core subjects—including Fundamentals of Geoinformatics, Data Acquisition Methods, GIS Analysis, Case Studies, and Database Systems—the curriculum now features several new standalone courses. Topics such as point cloud processing, programming and CAD fundamentals, geospatial programming, WebGIS, and artificial intelligence in geoinformatics are no longer presented merely as supplementary material but as integral components of the programme.

 

All topics are introduced from a foundational level, ensuring that participants, regardless of their previous background, can acquire the knowledge and practical skills needed to apply these modern geoinformatics technologies with confidence.

Based on the experience of previous years, the programme continues to be recommended not only for applicants with an engineering background but also for graduates from a wide range of disciplines—including the humanities, agriculture, natural sciences, and military sciences—who are interested in geoinformatics or encounter geospatial technologies in their professional work and wish to expand their expertise. The renewed curriculum is particularly relevant for professionals working in the construction industry, where modern technologies such as advanced data acquisition, point cloud processing, and AI-driven geospatial applications are becoming increasingly valuable in everyday practice.

When designing the new curriculum, our primary goal was to maximize the number of practical and laboratory sessions while maintaining a strong theoretical foundation. Another key innovation is the introduction of partially online theoretical courses, complemented by geoinformatics case studies presented by experienced professionals from industry.

The programme spans three semesters and is offered at an introductory tuition fee of HUF 250,000 per semester. Further information is available on the programme's website.
