International Master's Programme in Digital Twins – Applications Open for the Fourth Cohort

Applications are now open for the fourth cohort of the international master's programme Digital Twins for Infrastructures and Cities. Jointly offered by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and École des Ponts ParisTech, the programme prepares the next generation of engineers to apply digital twin technologies to the planning, operation, and management of infrastructure and urban systems.

Digital technologies are playing an increasingly important role in the planning, operation, and development of infrastructure and urban systems. Responding to this challenge, the Digital Twins for Infrastructures and Cities international master's programme was established, and applications are now open for its fourth cohort. The programme aims to educate professionals capable of designing and implementing digital twin systems across a wide range of applications in the built environment. Within the Hungarian higher education system, the programme corresponds to the Master's Programme in Infrastructure and Urban Informatics Engineering.

A Joint Degree Programme Delivered by Leading European Universities

The programme is jointly offered by three leading European technical universities as a Joint Degree programme:

  • Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME)

  • Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM)

  • École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC)

The academic excellence of the programme is further strengthened by additional international partners, including Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and the University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB). Students therefore benefit from the expertise, teaching staff, and academic environment of several leading European institutions throughout their studies.

Flexible Hybrid Learning

The programme is delivered in a hybrid format, making it possible to participate alongside full-time employment. Most courses are taught through live online sessions, allowing students to join from anywhere in the world.

The online curriculum is complemented by several international in-person events and workshops, providing opportunities for collaborative project work, professional networking, and direct interaction with industrial partners.

International Learning Environment and Industry Collaboration

One of the programme's defining features is its close collaboration with industry. Throughout their studies, students work on projects provided by international companies applying digital twin technologies in infrastructure development, mobility, and energy systems.

Project work is carried out in international student teams, often in cooperation with industry professionals. This environment enables students to gain hands-on experience with real-world applications of digital twins while expanding their international professional network.

What Will Students Learn?

The curriculum follows a modular structure and provides a comprehensive foundation in the key disciplines required for developing and implementing digital twin technologies. Students gain knowledge in areas including:

  • Digital Models and Networks for Digital Twins

  • Programming and Software Development

  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for Digital Twins

  • Digital Twin Management and Innovation

  • Applied Digital Skills – Specialisation Courses

Throughout the programme, students progressively develop their competencies, starting with the fundamentals of digital technologies and advancing towards practical applications in infrastructure and smart cities.

Capstone Projects in a Real Industrial Environment

A key component of the programme is the capstone project, during which students work in international teams on real-world industry projects. This provides participants with the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired in practice while further developing their collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
